You can do this swap just fine, but there are some issues with the engine breather which you will have to deal with. If it's already been converted to carbs, those problems have already been solved, or they are still causing problems. I can't be sure about your '72, but German-made '72s & '73s had different breather arrangements, which included vents in the rocker boxes and a valve in the breather box. Your '71 parts won't have the parts to work right with that breather, so you should swap in the '71 breather box and dipstick tube as well. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
