Re: Another car won't start problem

Brain failures are actually quite rare, but I can't think of anything else, other than a wiring problem, that would cause this.

I had a similar problem to Elroyyy's when I first started driving Wilson around (my 71 Square). Idiot lights on, no start. It was an intermittent problem and the car would just die at the side of the road every once in a while. I went through and re-soldered all the electrical connections I could find in the engine compartment and back seat area with new connectors (available at any decent auto shop), used shrink tubing, etc... Then I found the actual problem -- red wire that went to a round connector on the battery. It was hardly hanging on. Cut & resoldered that one and car has run fine ever since. I'd take a close look at all connections and in particular, check the area where the connector meets the actual wire. Over the years more than one of the connectors had become held on by only one strand of wire, or were heavily oxidized.

Good luck!
