I don't know if this will help at all as my car is a later FI model, but I was having a
hell of a time getting the car to drive right a couple years ago. Would run, but had no
power, missing like crazy, bucking, etc. After a while it would start, but would then
shut down [after warming a bit], all the electrical seemed intact, etc. Running the car
after dark was equivalent of a light show. I think I had recently changed cables, and
ruled that out. I don't recall if I reached the point of "not turning on at all", but I
did reach the point where driving around the block was out of the question.

Finally I decided to use a torque wrench to put the spark plugs in to spec per bently.
It would seem I had been overly cautious about tightening the plugs into the relatively
soft metal head. After tightening the plugs as such the car ran fine.

Maybe I am crazy? Hope this helps,

Curtis
