Put a spare spark plug in one of the plug lead caps, lay the plug on the metal of the engine case, turn the engine over and look for a spark at the plug. It should be a lovely blue-coloured one. If it's yellowish, the condensor might be bad. If it's not sparking at all, are you sure the rotor arm is the right one for a Type 3 - does it get close to the brass lugs in the distributor cap (measure up to check)? If it's sparking fine, are you sure the electromagnetic cut-off jets on the carbs are getting power? These stop fuel getting to the idle jets, though a squirt should be injected if you press the accelerator anyway. Dave.
