Most timing lights use inductive pickups these days, and these only respond to CURRENT thru the HV wire. If you leave that wire just floating on one end, then no current can flow and the light can't flash. I realize now that this would be the normal case if you were trying to open the points by hand. Sorry, I should have thought of that. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
