Re: [T3] Leaky oil cooler

And how do you do it? Can you remove the engine tin with the engine in the car? I don't think there are instructions for this job in any of the manuals.

Yes, you can do it in the car. It's a fair amount of trouble and, at least in my climate, I have to take a torch to a couple of the cooling tin screws to get them to come loose. Be CAREFUL if you do this; you don't want any gas fumes around.

Well, I removed the oil cooler today, engine in car. It wasn't all that difficult, just lots of screws and bolts to undo, and the usual grazed knuckles. I had to remove the left carb and manifold, the generator and the front and left top tin to get to it. the only glitch was when I forgot to put a rag in the fan housing when I removed the generator, and of course the big generator nut fell inside. I had to open the rubber air intake and fish it out with a magnet.

I couldn't tell if the oil cooler seals were leaking or not. Visually they looked OK, but they may have been hard, or squashed, or something.

Tomorrow or Thursday I'm going to that garage that I discovered, where i took my car before the test. I want to see if the guy there thinks the oil cooler is still usable (it's cracked round the bottom of the pressure switch boss). I can get one from him if it is kaput.
