It's bent and should be replaced. It is likely that this valve stem is stuck in the guide and that caused the rod to bend. You MIGHT be able to free up the valve by spraying some oil on the stem, but I think the odds are against you. I think you are going to have to pull the engine and get this head worked over. If you want to drive it somewhere to be worked on, you could just leave the 2 pushrods for that cylinder out and drive it on 3 cylinders, but only as far as you have to. It should be easy to find a good used pushrod. I have lots of them here. > I wonder... Twice in the last month my engine suddenly got 'clattery' and > when I stopped the clattering went away. To fix this, I suspect that the valve guide will have to be reamed out, at the very least. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
