Any recommendations? Tks, > Once I read a Webpage (I forgot which one) that provided details diagrams of how the horn works, AND, I think Jim also described it in the past. IIRC, the horn system always has electricity going through it and when the horn button is engaged it grounds the system closing the circuit and thus causing the horn to work. The steering shaft actually works as a grounding. The shaft itself is connected to the steering box via a steering coupler (the steering coupler is rubber or another non-conductive material). The coupler prevents the shaft from being grounded to the chassis (the steering box) so to continue the grounding effect, VW added a cable that goes from the steering shaft, around the coupler and connects back to the other side (the steering box side). Mine was broken when I replaced my coupler, so when I made hard turns (i.e. Full lock) that cable (which is exposed - kind of like the braided negative battery cable) touched parts on the chasis and the horn used to go off on its own. So, in short, check the cable. Also, the steering has a metal ring that touches a plate on the side of the steering shaft, if these are dirty, the ground contact is not happening. I hope this helps.
