I have done this three times, two of them with the engine in the Fasty and I have to say I rather do again with the engine in than out "just my opinion". The MAIN thing as many listees have pointed out is to make ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY and COMPLETELY sure that you read Jim's FAQ on oil coolers. The first and second time exchange seals I assumed the right ones were in there to begin with and not until I read Jims handy work I paid closer attention to what I had in front of me and cured the leak. There are a few variations of seals out there; one are totally cylindrical and look like a rubber bushing and the others have three different ID. Depending on what engine and oil cooler combo you have you use the appropriate seal. This why I say read Jim's FAQ because he explains in detail which seals go with what combo you have. And last but not least ensure you replace the foam padding on top of the cooler while you have it out and test the whole system for leaks before bolting all the tin back into place. That is why I rather do this replacement with the engine in place. It took me about 3 hrs to do once I knew what to take out and what not to. Just ensure your idiot light works if you do not have a helper in case that when you start it it still leaks and you can see it right away. Good Luck :] Thank You David 67 Baltic Blue Fastback ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
