I can hear a sound like this if the engine is low on oil and I open the dipstick. Adding a bit of oil brings the level up enough to stop it. I'm not sure what causes it, or even if it means that I'm actually low, but it's at the low end of the dipstick marks. It seems likely that letting the engine idle for a minute would let most of the oil drain back into the pan and raise the oil level there. At speed, there is always a fair amount of oil in the rocker boxes. I can't hear this at all unless I open the dipstick cap, so this makes me wonder if your cap gasket is broken or gone. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
