I remember back in the early 80s a guy at work bought a brand new BMW 530I ($$$) and was talking about how great the car was and mentioned that it consumes oil, and it wasn't break in or anything. When I expressed shock he said that it was normal and the dealer told him that. I never understood that then and don't now either.
