When I bought my square less than two years ago it had brand new calipers. The seller had receipts and the shiny new gold cad plating made it obvious. I have already had to replace one of them. The piston seized up, being held in place by severe rustcoming from outside the caliper under the dust seal into the cylinder. In all my experience with old vw's the calipers rarely go bad if the brake fluid is changed every couple of years. This is true of 20 or 30 year old calipers so less than two years is an unacceptable lifespan. My thought is the problem with the new calipers has to be the metalurgy.
