This doesn't make sense to me. Remember that the rocker box is connected to the case via the push rod tubes, and the case has a breather on top, up thru '71. I've certainly seen valve covers which were covered with wet oil, however, when the oil mist leaked out past a slipped gasket. > I wonder if this might have been the cause. The vents in the rocker boxes in 72-3 are actually air INLETS, so that filtered air from the air cleaner can be sucked into the engine from both sides. The crankcase is then pulled to a slight vacuum into the intake system. At least the FI cars did it this way.
