More commonly called rubber bushings. The rubber just twists internally when 
the part moves, so they are perfect for small amounts of reciprocating motion.

Watch garage sales, swap meets, and eBay for a dwell meter. I strongly 
recommend that you get a timing light that has an inductive pickup, rather than 
the older style which connects directly to the high voltage.
