If you are putting the same transaxle back, you can pull the drums and
center flanges, and remove the backing plate, leaving the cable
connected and with the car.
Otherwise, it is not that hard to disconnect the cables from the handle
inside the car.
It all depends on why you are pulling the transaxle.
