I just looks like a very crude O-ring. When you take it off is it circular or 
oval. If it is circular, or was originally, then you can buy all you want of 
them at any bearing supply house as those places generally also stock O-rings. 

I doubt if anyone could tell the difference other than the fact that a real O-
ring would be better finished: Notice that the one in your photo has a LOT of 
mold flash, which would be unacceptable in an O-ring.
