It's not always a given, but with a muffler that has been installed a few years you will find the threaded joints to the rear heat exchangers completely frozen together. I have to use a large torch, large vice, and large wrench to take these apart, and it only works after cutting the nipple extensions off the muffler, destroying it. Thus, I never even try until I'm convinced that the muffler is completely shot. I've tried adding antiseize to the threads, but I don't think that helps much after a couple of years. I have the proper VW type 3 muffler wrench, but I only use it when installing a new muffler. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
