There are a couple of "easy" things I'd check first. Check the level of the gear oil in the tranny, then drain it and replace it (use GL-4.) Check what comes out for bits and pieces of anything. Be sure to clean out the magnets in the drain plugs. Check the shift coupling. Check the shift bushing.
