RobC=> are the carbs also an issue? Oddly enough, yes. When VW introduced dual carbs, the sheet metal in the engine bay had to change to clear them. You'll find that the side walls are very tight. You may be able to jam it all in, but adjusting or installing the carbs could be problematic. If the carbs on the engine are not stock, you could have bigger trouble. (I wonder: would FI work better in this case?) If you go with this motor and your stock single carb, you'll probably have to switch to single-port heads. Maybe the ones you have are good. In any case, it won't quite be a turnkey situation.
