A google search for station car seems to describe the term as an economical 
vehicle used to travel a short distance from your home to the local train or 
transit station.  I don't know if this term had the same meaning in the 
1960s. 

The original owner's of my Canadian Squareback lived really close to their 
transit station in Toronto so luckily they just walked.  ;)
