Even VW don't use it any more, they supply internally reinforced hose, like the USA and UK stuff going back years, but it has slightly thinner wall thickness and takes the same clamp sizes as the original. Pity really, as the cloth covered stuff allows small amounts of leaking fuel to evaporate reasonably safely, whereas the rubber outer style allows it to drip off more easily. If yours is a brand you recognise, not something that sounds suspicious like "Bull-dog", "Sampson" or "Top Quality" (hope these aren't real company brands!), there is a hope it may be better than the worst and last more than a year. You're even closer to the rip-off centre of rubber production than non-Oz people, so it's more likely to be a cheap copy. I have a few metres of VW-Audi marked 7mm hose - it will be interesting to see if it holds up, but it's not a recent purchase, so may not really prove anything. At the very least there should be a date stamp on it - that may rule out some of the worst quality. The latest price from VW for the internally reinforced rubber was about $5 a foot in the UK! I ended up with Goodyear made in the USA. Dave.
