I think both of mine failed when silicone managed to seep around the diaphram
and contaminate the contacts until they would no longer conduct.

Perhaps they would last longer if you added a relay into the circuit. Is this only an issue after you switch to the silicone brake fluid or will the newer switches fail earlier on standard brake fluid as well?
