You probably just pulled on the wire harness on the left side of the engine and 
that pulled on the ground wire. Glad you found it.

Right, Muir means the wire that runs to the condensor, which will be green if 
the condensor is a Bosch. If you have a Bosch coil the # 1 will actually be 
molded into the plastic next to the terminal.

SOMETHING is wrong. Perhaps you have a bad connection, perhaps the points are 
oxidizd so they aren't making contact. Maybe the dwell meter isn't working.

Get a voltmeter (often the dwell/tach will do this) and watch the voltage on 
term # 1. It should be ~12V when the points are open and ~0 V when the points 
are closed. Verify that is is happening. Try setting the gap with the feeler 
gauge (make sure it isn't oily, so you don't get oil on the points gap.)

If the engine will start and run, and you still don't get a response from the 
dwell meter, then I'd suspect a problem with the dwell meter. If so, try to 
find another old car with points that you can test it on.
