First, you will probably find that you broke the drive to the governor. It would have been spining with no lubrication. Second, all of the internal parts of the trans itself that would have been turning with the differential would have had almost no lubrication. > What will be required to fix the damage? Just be sure you get all the pieces of the old one out of the differiental area. It is driven by a brass gear in the differential. > > i purchased a used tranny, but have yet to install it as i first want a good > understanding of the damage done and repairs needed. Your old one will never be the same, because so many parts will have to be replaced. > > i am pretty bummed about hurting a car that has been so utterly faithful to > me and never given me any problems whatsoever, only good times. > -- Russ Wolfe '71 FB AT '66 FB MT '65 T1 (not running) russw@classicvw.org http://www.classicvw.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
