Re: [T3] invasion camping pictures!
<x-flowed>Brian and I cruised down Saturday from his place and spent the night at
the track. This is fun because you can walk around and talk with the
racers and get really close to the race cars. Dan Lawson (is that
right, Brian?) has an uber-sweet, all-motor Notch dragster with a carbon
fiber rear body and some carbon up front. Just going from FIBERGLASS to
CARBON FIBER shaved 70 pounds from the cars weight -- imagine the weight
savings from metal (John J. you don't count ;-). And it's wicked-fast
to boot!
I met several listees so that's always nice to match a face with a
name. I also met some hopefully 'new' listees. I've found it's good to
stick around the cars in the show because people have questions. The
alternator is always a conversation starter and it's how I meet new T3
owners and send them to the vwtype3 list. I really need to get some
business sized cards made up that have the three important T3 web sites
I recommend to people (mine for the alternator, vwtype3.org, and the
DDB's for parts).
Greg has a plethora of literature, stuff I didn't even know existed,
like how to be a VW car salesman and a map of all of the authorized VW
shops in Germany...let me tell you, there were more shops on that map
than Starbucks Coffee houses in Seattle! Tony's purple Squareback is a
winner, pure and simple. It's a driver and not a trailer bitc...queen,
as any car should be and all very well executed. This car needs to be
seen and seen in person. He is also a good source of info and showed me
his custom performance exhaust and how he made his heat exchangers (not
as difficult as I thought). Look for more custom cars to come out of
his domain...
In the swap area I got a T3 muffler with upper heat exchangers for $20
and it's in very good condition! I'm thinking of brushing the rust off
and mounting it above my fireplace. Those dashes were a little too nice
and clean looking for me -- I suspect they were reproductions. I know
some of the breasts on the bikini contestants were.
My baby got a mileage best of 26mpg thanks to Brian's carb tuning skills
and jetting down the carbs. Power all over the place...quickly passing
cars in 5th gear while going UPHILL! On the way home in Portland I even
made a light blue 360 Modena Ferrari pause, s-l-o-w-l-y pass by me
checking out my Bright Orange Cop Bait ride before screaming off into
the distance. How much you wanna bet he wanted one? He wasn't the only
unique automobile on the road that day :-)

Oh, forgot one thing. Did you notice the Pigalle Red dash for sale in Greg's
pics? Asking price? $300! Needless to say, I didn't take it home...
