Well I got my new bosch voltage regulator yesterday afternoon. Unfortunately I had to fix an electrical short in a bathroom yesterday-someone kept getting zapped in the shower...(I think my electrical problems always come in groups) I didn't get home until near dark-so I started the replacement today. I disconnected the ground strap. Took out the voltage regulator-watching all the connections to make sure I reconnected properly. Then I put the new one in. Reconnected the ground strap, started my car-and still the same problem-generator light is on. After running for a while-the light goes out. Revving the engine doesn't seem to make a difference. I went to the generator, cleaned the brush on top, cleaned the commutator as per Muir(with sandpaper and popsicle stick). Then cleaned grooves out with an old dental pick I have. I started it again, and the generator light is still on. I re-checked the fan-belt, it seems properly tensioned. I put my voltage tester up to the battery, with the engine running, and revving the engine-it doesn't really go above 12.3 or 12.4. This makes me thing that the somehow the battery is not getting re-charged-I think it should read 13.5-14.5 with the engine running, right? Next I'm taking the voltage regulator out again-and I'm going to check the ground of the regulator...not sure where else to go? Could maybe the new voltage regulator be bad? Thanks for any suggestions... Time is short, I want to make the show... -kevin '65 kombi '71 FI man sqbk somerville, ma ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Shameless link for search engines: http://listarchive.type3.org ~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
