If shorting it at the solenoid terminals did the trick then I'd suspect the ignition switch. > As far as the bad/dirty solenoid is concerned, is it just the > connections? With the Muir suggestions - like tapping the solenoid with > a hammer - what does that do? The solenoid depends on a good connection thru the starter to work. If the starter brushes are not making good contact, the solenoid won't work. Sometimes the brushes get hung up a bit and tapping on the side of the starter will jog them a little, allowing for better contact. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Shameless link for search engines: http://listarchive.type3.org ~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
