They haven't been adjusted since they were on the road. Here's what I get for a LHD type 3; measurements are ball center to ball center, approx: left 14-5/8" right 31" > Also when I installed the fan it didn't seem to push in all the way > will this be taken care of when I tighten the crank pully gland nut? It should go all the way in on its own. If not, I'd be worried that the Woodruff key was tilted and this won't always correct itself. Pull the fan out and take a look at the key. If it's not in there correctly, it can be very hard to correct once the case halves are back together. > and finally what goes inside the large hole on the oil breather? mine > had some steel wool and a spring? What year? Up thru '69 there was a washer and a plastic curly "sponge" in there. From about '70 there was a washer and a spring. I don't think VW ever supplied steel wool. If it's the fine stuff I'd be worried that it would break up and shed bits of steel down into the sump. If it's the coarse stuff like you'd use on a skillet then it might be fine, especially if it's the stainless steel "Kurly Kate" kind of scrubber. It's just there to coalese oil droplets so they can drain back into the sump, but there's often condensed water there, so iron might rust and cause problems. VW never supplied the spring together with the sponge. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Shameless link for search engines: http://listarchive.type3.org ~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
