For a beginner I'd recommend a MIG welder. Go with gas though, as the
gasless (flux core) require too much heat and after work (gotta ghip the slag off).
If you're comfy with a gas torch, then that's the best route of the 3 choices,
as it allows you to move the metal easier (just gotta turn the heat down and
use a very small tip like a "0" or a "00") to control your welds. The best
choice is a TIG., but not many people have one in their garage. :( For rockers
and such, a MIG will allow you to get the job done quickly, but you'll need to
grind down the welds too, and that's where gas or a TIG come in handy as they
require less grinding. I'm a welder by profession, and HATE grinding, but
will do it if I have to. I hope this helps.
