Glad to hear that you've got the right manual. ;-) Depending on your year, find the right photo and look at it carefully. Note especially the orientation of the diamond shaped plate that goes under the plate that has the lever pivot. There are 4 different ways that this plate can be installed, but only one of those is correct. Look at the little protrusions next to the center hole and then compare them with the photos and the text. One thing I want to mention is that the type 3 coupler is different from a bug's. If you put in a bug coupler then your shift rod will be upside down, and when you look down at your shift rod you won't see a cup for the ball on the bottom of the shift lever to fit into. When you look down there do you see that cup for the ball? -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
