Hmmm..., is it possible that the rubber inserts were a 69-only item. My 69 has a mixed set of rings on it, but 2 of them have those rubber inserts. I had always assumed that THOSE were from an earlier car, but perhaps those are actually the original ones.... I recall that there are actually VW part numbers stamped on them somewhere. I think some of mine have 311 numbers and some have 113 (or 111) numbers. I wonder if the ones with the rubber inserts are the 311s. I assume that the differences between the 2 types would have been a slightly different shape to accommodate the different wheel offsets. A look at the microfilm shows 2 versions: one up thru 65 (5-bolt) and a second for 66-69 (4-bolt.) The drawing of the early one shows narrower slots, and this one is displayed over a wheel that has NO slots. Sound familiar to anyone? AND a final look at the microfilm revealed that there is actually a part # for that grommet: 311 601 159. No date given, but it's only supposed to fit the 66- 69 trim ring. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
