Welcome to the list. Hope you enjoy it here. > Anyhow the rear end is starting to sag pretty badly, and with the amount of > use the vehicle has seen (300k + miles, several trips across N. You should get a copy of the Bentley manual: Volkswagen Official Service Manual Type 3 Fastback and Squareback 1968-1973 published by Robert Bentley, Cambridge, Mass, 1974 ISBN 0-8376-0057-X / LPV 997 383 / VSQU (excellent book, complete and well written) This covers the torsion bars rather well, as well as all the other things you're likely to need. This can be a big job, but it sound like you're up to it. 71 is one of the best years, so your mom's car is worth taking good care of. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
