DavidVN=> Only on currently unlicensed or abandoned cars, though. The trouble comes when the inspecting authority (policy, town assessor, dogcatcher, whatever) can determine a vehicle's status as abandoned or nuisance on the fly. It's true that some municipalities allow petty officials to order the disposal of vehicles without consent from or even notice to the owner, usually because of sloppily written ordinances. It behooves all of us to understand local codes chapter and verse, including operating vehicle codes, in the event that some Lone Ranger For the Public Good decides that old foreign cars are a scourge on right-thinking Americans everywhere. It happens. Find out what the law is and its enforcement policy, and if either is unfair, don't wait for the problem to come to you. Get the ear of a competent public servant, be polite, and suggest positive change.
