The flare tube fittings you're seeing on the Sure enough... you can *kind* of see what's going on here: http://vwtype3.org/literature/clymer/service/images/1972.07.6.shtml Towards the top of the diagram, the outer bit is the crimped metal that you need to remove, then there's the hose as you go in, then the actual inlet of the injector, then the filter. Don't worry -- hardly anybody knows that this can be done until they're shown. -Greg p.s. -- my gas heaters had a similar arrangement.
