Very different than the > later cars. When you say "tubes welded to the ends" do you mean that there was a single large tube welded at both ends that the harness had to be pushed thru? I don't think I've ever seen this. Yes, it sounds pretty hard to deal with. I know the groove was there by '68. > Jim A. wrote: > >It sounds like it may have moved more than once. > > Agreed. It's been awhile since I parted out my 2 old 71s but I'm pretty sure that at least one of them was this later style. I know that one was a last-month-of-'71- production car, however. The other one was earlier, but I don't remember it for sure. I know that the very early '72 which I parted out last summer was the late version. I have another mid-year 71 in the garage that I could look at now to refresh my memory, but it certainly looks like this must have been a mid-year '71 change. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
