Howdy All. This is another long winded post, so get comfortable...... I am almost at the point time wise and financially that I will be ready to start building a new engine for my 1970 square. The main stumbling block is that my case is toast (you may remember my posts from a while back...the cooling tin rubbed a hole into the oil gallery). My question is---would I be better off with a new case, or a good used one? Please take into consideration the amount of 'extra' stuff that a new case might require that a used one might already have, such as case and cylinder studs, other engine studs and bolts, oil passage relief springs and pistons, etc. How much of this stuff can I expect to come with a new case. How much would I want to replace, even if present, on a used case? The local VW shop will sell me a used case that they have checked and pronounced good for $150, but that might still require line boring or other machine work. I just made a minor killing on ebay selling some of my KZ1000 parts, so I'm ready to invest in the square. I'll also try to get some pics on the samba tonight of the completed bodywork. Thanks all, looking forward to your opinions.
