The kickdown switch is only ONE of the things that will cause your tranny to downshift. The other is the vacuum modulator. It has an adjustment which is covered in the lubrication & maintenance chapter of the Bentley. These require adjustment any time a new one is installed, but often this is not done, either out of ignorance or lazyness. You can also tell whether it is adjusted right by seeing if it upshifts/downshifts at the right speeds when driving normally on flat roads. This is a bit tedious and can take time to zero in on the right adjustment. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
