In a last ditch effort to fix my fasty before admitting defeat and having her towed (oh the shame) to the mechanic's, I carried out another tune up. While adjusting the idle speed she stalled. In the silence I could hear a quite but definite dripping noise. On investigation of the right carb I discovered that the source of the noise was a constant and heavy drip from the discharge arm, sufficient to have filled the entire throat of the carb above the throttle butterfly with petrol. The situaton in the left carb was the same. So it would appear that my carb rebuilding effort was somehow to blame. It has me baffled as after the initial problems I reinstalled the original float needle valves in both carbs and the floats are the originals. I noticed that tipping the carb ever so slightly would cause a steady dribble of fuel from the discharge arm. Am I correct in assuming that this would be caused by a needle valve which doesn't close properly or closes too late?
