[T3] Rear Wheel Bearing Puller
<x-flowed>Yesterday I spent the day removing Sophy's transmission from the
subframe. I had previously pulled her engine and then the trans and
subframe as a unit. I took it all out for a couple of reasons.
First, I am planning on building her a new detailed 2.0 liter motor
this winter. I also needed to replace the torn swingaxle boots and
clean up the transaxle. It still had sand caked on from her first life
in Florida I also need to replace the rubber rear trans mounts at the
frame horns. They are very soggy with oil and are breaking down. I
also want to POR-15 the underside of the body here since it is the only
section of the car that has not been recoated with new paint. I will
also paint detail the subframe, shocks and transaxle while I am at it.
So a couple of questions related to replacing the axle boots with
non-split OEM style boots.....
Any tricks or common tools for pulling the rear wheel bearing without
the specialty puller shown in the Bentley manual? I need to get the
bearing off so that I can remove the axle tube and replace the boots.
Can you really stretch the boot over the axle tube flange as shown in
the Bentley manual?
Thanks in advance for your advice.
BTW, if you have never had the subframe and trans out as a unit is
quite interesting. A bit ahead of its time as this is pretty common
now with front wheel drive cars.
