Going thru a VW dealer parts book updated to at least May of 72, I find nearly a page of different rear torsion bars for type 3s. The dual part numbers indicate L/R. The dimensions are diameter x length. Swing axle: 311 511 115/6 B, 22mm x626mm, no paint marks type 31 and 34, 67-8 311 511 115/6, 23mm x 626mm, 1 white paint ring type 31 and 34, thru 66 with Z-bar type 36, 67-8 type 36, 69-on with swing axle and Z-bar 361 511 115/6, 24mm x 626mm, 2 paint rings type 36 thru 66 IRS: 311 511 115/6 D, 22mm x 676mm, no paint marks type 31 and 34 361 511 115/6 C, 23.5mm x 676mm, 1 white paint ring type 36 The question of which cars got which, and when, is really confused, and not nearly as simple as I had thought. Note also that there are some letter suffixes missing, so there might actually have been other bars used which had been superceded by the time my parts book was printed. I don't have a Beetle parts book. Beetles MIGHT have used some of these same torsion bars, but these are all 311 or 361 part numbers, so it looks unlikely.
