I believe that ATF fluid expands when it is hot. I know that on modern cars there are usually two marks on an ATF dipstick, one for "full when cold" and one for "full when hot". I can't imagine that it is different on older VW's. Douglas R. Gray 18th Judicial District Probation Department Sex Offender Unit 7305 S. After I got back, I stopped to tweak the idle speed a bit, and noticed a big puddle of ATF collecting under the car. It seems to be coming off the torque converter, but I can't be sure. When I checked the ATF level, it actually seemed to be a bit high. Does it go up when the oil gets hot or something? Is it possible that overfilling it could cause a leak like this? It seems to leak most when the engine is on. Could something have come loose? (I may be imagining this, but something seemed to be rattling nearby) What should I check before taking everything apart?
