[T3] Safely back in the UK

Hi all,
Thanks for all the friendship and hospitality Anne and I were given while in the
USA, and particular thanks to Ron, Keith, Jim, John and others who made sure the
Hershey Invasion went really well. The show was a great opportunity to put a
few more faces to names, and I think we all learned more about Type 3s, whether
through the excellent technical sessions or by talking and looking at the cars.
I don't think I was alone in wanting to take the Witness Squareback home, clean
it up and restore it to how it looked in the film!

It was great to meet up with some of the Parma gang, but a pity you others
couldn't make it this time.

I'll get some pages of photos up on the website over the next few days, and look
forward to being able to get a copy of the video if one becomes available.
Anyone know what happened to the program on 'passions' that was being filmed for
at Parma?

I've never planned a holiday in more detail than this one, or got closer to
achieving all the things I hoped. Everything seemed to go to plan, with lots to
see and do in New England, some very comfortable B&B accommodation, and
comforting police presence in Boston (our visit coincided with the Democrats
Convention). I even got the handbrake cables thanks to Dave and Keith, and the
self-darkening welding mask thanks to Harbor Freight, though the X-ray guys at
Newark did find the X-ray picture puzzling enough to take a look inside - they
removed the bag-tie securing the zips and left their calling card to apologise
for breaking the lock! I guess the VW Tee-shirts gave it all away when they
did look. Luckily they didn't use a controlled explosion to check the tins of
Hershey chocolates weren't land mines. ;-)

The return flight went well, but take-off was delayed by a thunderstorm at
Newark Liberty Airport, which left too little time to catch our connection at
Amsterdam, so we had a 6-hour wait there and flew to Bristol on a propellor
aircraft (Fokker 50). It looked slightly newer than the Smithsonian exhibits at
Washington (great place to visit if you get a chance). The cloud even cleared
enough to see our house from the air during long finals.

No promises but Brian and Shannon have been working hard on Anne for the next
Invasion, so it's not out of the question. It may depend on how Steve, our
youngest, reports on his current west-coast USA tour - it's looked pretty hot
there on the weather channel, but no storms, tornados, floods or hurricanes like
other places have got. The B&B we stayed at for the Invasion was just 500 feet
from the line of a tornado two weeks before our visit!
Having spent a while trying to find other good things to watch, I now understand
better why it's the only broadcast TV Keith seems to watch much. ;-)

Thanks again everyone,
Dave and Anne.
