I've removed all of the fittings from the gas tank and am ready to do SOMETHING to it. It has a lot of surface rust (I hope) on the inside and would like suggestions on how to scour it out without resorting to an $80 cleanout at the radiator shop. I have piles of metallic stuff I can put in there, but I am leery of using water as a liquid due to the amount of rust already in there. Rubbing Alcohol perhaps? Suggestions for a chemical to aid in rust removal would be good as well. In all my years of messing with VW's (since '78) I've never had to mess with a gas tank.
