A similar thing happened to my brother in his 64 Bug, he was rear-ended by a Toyota van back in March, luckily the Toyota didnt have such a high speed (around 25 mph) so he and his two kids didnt sutain any damage. The Bug did get some damage, but it's being fixed these days.

Yes, VWs and Audis still uses similar seat tracks today. The physical sizes are probably not the same, but the tracks are still similar.
