The oil was black as night. Of course, when I ordered those AT pan gaskets from Makco, I also ordered an extra vacuum modulator (it was cheap) just to have an extra. :) One interesting thing. The gaskets I got locally that come with the tranny gasket/filter kits for the AT are made completely of rubber. The ones I ordered (and used when changing the fluid) are the regular cork/rubber ones. I put some gasket sealer on the pan side of the gasket & torqued it down to 7ft/lbs. over the course of about 30 minutes. All good to date. I never realized how much pressure 7ft/lbs. was. If I hadn't had a torque wrench and had "guesstimated," I would never have tightened them near enough. ===== ----------------------------------------- Have you driven your Type 3 today? http://www.tiserves.com/VW/ ----------------------------------------- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
