Well, I didn't use that process, but when I replaced my ATF fluid, I replaced it with synthetic for the following reasons: 1) Since the previous ATF fluid hadn't burned or turned to any kind of sludge, I figured the chances of displacing any pockets of sludge with the synthetic (a reason brough up for not using synthetic in formerly bio-oiled engines) was slim. 2) I didn't believe that "oil used for cooling" was an issue, and therefore the ability of oil to "carry" heat away wasn't an issue, although when I asked here on the list what is used to cool the AT, I didn't get an answer. The result has been fine so far. Shifts are very very smooth, but I honestly don't notice any perceptual difference between the synthetic and normal fluid. Just my $.02...
