My GUESS is that you did the static timing wrong. Turning the engine in the 
normal direction, you should set the timing so that the light goes ON as the 
timing mark goes by. My guess is that you set it to when the light went OFF. 
The difference should be ~50 deg, so either your estimate of the angle, or your 
dwell, is off a bit.

It's nice to have a dwell meter to set this. It's a lot more reliable than by 
eye or feeler gauge.
