Best advice I can give after rebuilding 100's of VW air cooled engines,
Don't over work it, don't overheat it, don't over rev it.
Get the valves adjusted at 300 miles, and again at 1000 miles. Then
every 3000 miles after that. 
Learn to do the valve adjustment yourself.
