Okay, I'm still skeptical, but at least we can blame this on Keith. ;-) I don't know what you could have in there that could be the wrong part. OTOH, that doesn't mean that it can't be broken. > I think the reason no one made a big deal of it was for the reasons you > mentioned Jim, that since it did belong to a T3 it wasn't a drastic > issue, but it might prove to be one eventually. > > And now I think it is. What should I > look for under there? The mount consists of two steel plates with a big block of rubber bonded in between them. I think there is some interlocking of the steel parts so that even if the bond fails the tranny won't fall completely loose. At any rate, the shift rod will hold it up, but that's not a good thing to rely on. What you'd look for would be some sign that the two plates are now more free to move than they used to be. You might be able to get under there and pry the nose of the tranny rearwards and see if the mount just lets it move. If it doesn't it's fine. I've never actually seen one of these go bad, so Russ may have some more informed thoughts. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
