Since she already brought it up, perhaps it would be fair to start out with, 
"Remember how you metioned that I should get something, too? Well, I've found 
something I'd really like to have...." Then explain, like you did to us, how 
you've had your eyes on this car for a long time and how it is completely 
original. And make sure she understands how important and hard to find that 
makes it.  

Then involve her in the purchasing process: Invite her to go look at it with 
you.
